I anticipate some down corn this fall. the point is rather light. I understand you may have an alternate available? I switched my head from a JD 9500 to a caseIH 2388. Unfortuantely it is not variable speed. The gear alterations I purchased cause the head to run faster than I would prefer in normal conditions, and it is particularly helpful in down corn to slow the gathering chains as much as possible. Is there any alteration other than using a different ring gear?

Yes you are right the pionts are light. We have a spring kit that can be added and the work well. The newer heads came with them as standard equipment. You should go to your Geringhoff dealer and ask them to explain more. If they are unaware of the kit call aemsco parts department.
There is away to slow the head down by putting a different crown gear in your head. As long as the head is running 740- 750 on the Geringhoff moniter I would try to see how you get along, instead of going thru more expense.

If you have a Geringhoff corn head and with the switch from JD to a CIH 2388 you must change the crown gear in the big gear box on the end of the head, where the pto is hooked, if you have an RD 8 row you must change booth of them. Contact your local dearler and he will help you out.
