What can you tell me about my 9760's ability to run your 16 row chopping head. I bought another brand last year and couldn't run it. dealer took it back in the end after lots of hassle. My same dealer signed up as a gearinghoff dealer this year and is telling me it will wotk. i don't want to go through the hassle of finding out it wont. also- how often do you have to replace the choppers?

Your 9760 should be able to run a 16 row head. The 16 row is designed for a class 8 combine but will work on a class 7 like yours providing you have the high tourque header drive on your combine. also you may have to add two more lift cylinders on the feeder house if you haven't done this yet. Deere offers a kit and they also offer a larger cylinder that can be installed.
You should have plenty of power, we take less horse power per row than any other chopping head out there. I don't know how fast you are traveling, with the 16 row you should be able to run 3.5 to 4 mph.
The rotary discs that do the schreading should be checked for wear between 500 to 600 acres per row ( between 8000 to 9600 acers). The stationary knife and rotary knife that cut the stocks run on average 200 to 300 acers per row (3200 to 4800 acres). which do have to be checked and adjusted to run at optiimum efficiency.

Hey hoes. thanks again. I bought the 16 row. Your indiana service guy was at the dealership when i went in and was giving a training school. I sat in and looks like a well built head. i'll post again after i get through harvest.
